IO Interactive has released the opening title sequence for 007 First Light, its upcoming James Bond action-adventure game. The 007 First Light title sequence plays alongside a theme song performed by Lana Del Rey and draws from the visual conventions that define Bond film credits.
The sequence places Bond in silhouette against a series of abstract, shifting environments. Each scene morphs into the next as the character moves through them, with the transitions carrying familiar Bond imagery: shadowy women dancing, pistols pointing in multiple directions, explosions, and other visual elements apparently connected to the events of the game’s story.
Inside the 007 First Light title sequence
The sequence follows a format Bond films have used since the early 1960s. The protagonist appears in stylized silhouette, keeping attention on the abstract environments and imagery surrounding them. IO Interactive, the Danish studio behind the rebooted Hitman trilogy, has reproduced those conventions closely, maintaining the morphing transitional imagery and the layered action iconography across the full runtime.
IO Interactive secured the James Bond game license several years ago. 007 First Light is an original story rather than an adaptation of any existing Bond film, giving the studio room to develop its own version of the character and world.
The Lana Del Rey theme
IO Interactive announced the Lana Del Rey theme song for 007 First Light earlier in the same week. The song shares its name with the game’s subtitle and builds through lyrics dealing with risk, determination, and urgency before arriving at the line “Bond, are you ready?” near its close. The song plays through the full length of the title sequence.
Commissioning an original song from a prominent recording artist specifically for a title sequence is not standard practice in games. The Bond film franchise has maintained that tradition since the 1960s, pairing each entry with its own track written and performed for it. IO Interactive appears to have applied the same model to 007 First Light, pairing the sequence with a purpose-made song rather than licensed music or a score cue.
Lana Del Rey’s production style is cinematic and atmospheric. The song’s lyrics follow a character moving toward risk and purpose, with the opening line ‘run into the sun like it’s the first light of day’ setting the tone. The closing lyric names Bond directly, bridging the song’s themes and the game’s opening moments.
