Jeremy Clarkson cancer: prostate diagnosis revealed

Jeremy Clarkson has disclosed a prostate cancer diagnosis, revealing the news on screen during the final episodes of Clarkson’s Farm Season 5. The episodes began streaming on Prime Video this week. The Jeremy Clarkson cancer diagnosis had not been publicly confirmed before the show aired.

The former Top Gear presenter chose to tell the cameras before any wider announcement. In the show, he breaks the news directly to farm manager Kaleb Cooper and friend Charlie Ireland. “I’ve got cancer,” Clarkson tells them. Cooper’s initial response: “No, you haven’t. Where?” Clarkson replied that the location of the cancer was “of no concern of anybody” and confirmed he had known about the diagnosis since May.

Clarkson explained that he had “disappeared off the other week” during filming to visit a doctor, where a biopsy confirmed his condition. He described the cancer as “aggressive,” but stressed it was “really early.” His immediate concern was the farm’s harvest schedule: he had hoped to complete it before starting treatment, but the timing did not work out that way.

Jeremy Clarkson cancer: what treatment looks like

“I was praying we could get the harvest done, and then I could go and get some treatment, but it’s going to be slap bang in the middle,” he said. Clarkson told Cooper and Ireland that an operation was expected within two to three weeks. He described the procedure as “in and out in no time,” though his body would be “out of action for a little while” afterward.

He was later seen at the hospital during filming. “I started Season 5 with me in a hospital bed and we are at the end of Season 5 and I’m back in a hospital bed,” he said.

Clarkson also acknowledged that some of the treatment had “gone awry,” though he gave no specifics. Blood tests following the main procedure would give him a clearer picture.

Season 6 of Clarkson’s Farm left uncertain

The show’s final moments carry considerable weight. Clarkson addressed the camera directly: “What I wanted to say was if this is all successful, I’ll see you for Season 6, and if it isn’t, I won’t.” He then signed off the season with: “Take care, everyone.”

Before the final episodes aired, Clarkson posted on Instagram to warn viewers the content would be difficult. “They’re really, really difficult,” he wrote. He called the episodes “a difficult watch.”

Clarkson, 66, became one of Britain’s most recognisable television personalities as lead presenter on Top Gear, a role he held for two decades before leaving in 2015 following a dispute with a producer. He subsequently co-hosted The Grand Tour on Prime Video alongside former Top Gear colleagues James May and Richard Hammond. Clarkson’s Farm debuted in 2021 and follows his efforts to run a 1,000-acre farm in the Cotswolds. Season 5 is billed as the final season of the series.
