Rockstar Games has reportedly reminded the GTA 6 voice cast to stay quiet about their roles. The reminder came days after actor Stephen Root confirmed he has a part in the game. According to a report from Insider Gaming, it arrived shortly after Root’s comments started circulating online.
The podcast GTAVIoclock, described by Insider Gaming as a normally reliable source on the game, claims Rockstar contacted its voice cast directly. The message read: “We would like to remind everyone to please remember your NDA. The date you may announce your involvement is still November 19th.” That date matches the current release window Rockstar has set for the game.
Stephen Root’s slip on the gta 6 voice cast
Root is known for his roles in Barry, King of the Hill, and Get Out. Weeks ago, he confirmed that he plays a character in Grand Theft Auto 6. He did not say which role he voices. Players had already flagged his voice in one of the game’s earliest trailers, spoken by a drug dealer named Brian Heder.
Root’s comments spread quickly among fan communities that track every scrap of GTA 6 news. That put Rockstar in the position of managing a leak it did not authorize, rather than one it planned to release on its own schedule. It also raised the question of how many other cast members are staying quiet under the same instructions.
Rockstar has kept the identities of the actors voicing lead characters Lucia and Jason under wraps since the game’s reveal trailer arrived in December 2023. The same goes for the rest of the cast across the fictional state of Leonida. The studio has confirmed other elements of the game piecemeal instead. It recently detailed a soundtrack featuring 34 original songs from real-world artists. It also announced a $400 collector’s edition that does not include a copy of the game itself.
A history of celebrity casting
Rockstar has cast recognizable actors in its games before. Samuel L. Jackson voiced police officer Frank Tenpenny in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The late Ray Liotta voiced protagonist Tommy Vercetti in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Both performances became closely associated with those games long after release.
Keeping those names under an NDA until a fixed date has let the studio control when and how each reveal lands. That approach works best when cast members stay quiet, rather than setting the pace themselves. A single early slip, like Root’s, can force the studio to respond faster than planned.
Why the timing matters
Rockstar has delayed GTA 6 twice since the initial reveal. The game is now scheduled for November 19, 2026. Tying the cast’s NDA release to that same date suggests Rockstar wants the reveals folded into its release-week marketing. That way, cast announcements land alongside other news rather than trickling out one at a time.
Root’s early admission complicates that plan slightly. Still, it has not changed the date Rockstar gave its cast for when they can speak freely about the project. Fans hoping to learn who else is playing a role will likely have to wait until November 19.
