Video Games Federation Belgium reported on Tuesday that total revenue from video games, services, and hardware in Belgium dropped to €646 million in 2025, down from €698 million the year before. The decline of roughly €50 million in Belgium video game sales was driven primarily by weaker physical retail.
Physical products now account for 25% of the market, while digital formats make up the remaining 75%. The gap widened in 2025 as brick-and-mortar specialist retail took a significant hit.
The closure of Game Mania played a direct role. The specialist chain shut all its Belgian stores at the end of 2024, removing one of the country’s main physical sales points. David Verbruggen, managing director of the federation, said the closures “impacted physical sales” particularly in Flanders, where the chain had its strongest presence.
Digital and mobile partially offset the decline
Digital console and PC sales grew 1% year on year, accounting for 38% of total revenue. That segment covers digital downloads, in-game purchases, DLC, subscriptions, and game streaming services.
Mobile performed better. The segment recorded 148 million downloads and grew its revenue share to 26%, up 3% compared to 2024. The most-downloaded titles were Roblox, Block Blast!, World Search Explorer, and Kingshot.
Belgium video game sales: consoles and top titles
Console and peripheral hardware held steady at 25% of total revenue, unchanged from 2024. Belgian consumers bought 253,466 consoles and 675,891 peripherals over the course of the year.
PlayStation 5 retained the top spot in console sales. The Nintendo Switch 2, available in Belgium for only seven months of 2025, still placed second, ahead of the original Switch, the PS4, and the Hyper Mega Tech! Evercade.
The most-played console and PC titles were Fortnite, Call of Duty HQ, and Roblox. Boxed game sales were led by EA SPORTS FC 26, EA SPORTS FC 25, and Battlefield 6.
The report excludes sales data from Belgian studio Larian Studios, in-game advertising revenue, merchandise, PC hardware, and global revenue figures for Belgian gaming companies.
