Capcom has officially confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2, ending months of speculation after a datamine published in late 2025 surfaced evidence of a port.
The confirmation came via a “Developer Message” video posted to the official Monster Hunter YouTube channel. Capcom’s statement was brief: “Monster Hunter Wilds is currently in development for Nintendo Switch 2! We’ll have more info to share, including the release date, in the future.” No release window or additional details accompanied the announcement.
Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2: what we know so far
Wilds launched in February 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game introduced large open environments and dynamic weather systems that affect hunts in real time. The initial platform lineup did not include Nintendo hardware.
Evidence of a Switch 2 port surfaced in late 2025, when a datamine uncovered files pointing to a version in development. At the time, Capcom declined to comment. The Summer Game Fest 2026 announcement confirms the datamine was accurate.
Capcom has not detailed what the Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 version will look like in practice. The original game runs on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Switch 2 operates in a different performance bracket from those platforms, so some technical adjustments are possible. Capcom has not said whether it will make any visual or performance changes.
Monster Hunter’s track record on Nintendo hardware
The series has a long history on Nintendo platforms. Monster Hunter Rise launched on the original Switch in 2021 and sold millions of copies. That track record shows a clear audience for Monster Hunter on Nintendo hardware, and the Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 version extends it to the newer platform.
Switch 2 has been building its game catalog since launch, with both first-party releases and third-party ports. The addition of Wilds gives Switch 2 players access to one of the biggest releases of 2025 without needing a PS5 or a gaming PC. When the port arrives will determine how much of the active player base is still engaged with the game.
More Capcom announcements at Summer Game Fest
The Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 confirmation came alongside other Capcom reveals during Summer Game Fest. The publisher announced Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, described as a “massive expansion” to the base game, set to arrive in 2027. Capcom also announced Resident Evil Veronica for Switch 2. Both were Nintendo-focused reveals within the same showcase.
Capcom has not clarified whether the Switch 2 version of Wilds will arrive before or alongside the Ascendance expansion in 2027. The publisher has committed to sharing a release date and said more details will follow, but has not set a timeframe for that announcement.
