Netflix has launched Netflix Playground, a standalone gaming app for children aged eight and under. The app is free for all Netflix subscribers and is available now in the United States, with a global rollout set for April 28 on both iOS and Android.
Playground is separate from Netflix’s main platform. It contains only interactive games, no streaming content. There are no ads, no in-app purchases, and no requirement for a constant internet connection. Once downloaded, children can play offline.
What the app includes
The launch library features games based on established kids’ brands. Titles star characters from Peppa Pig, Sesame Street, Storybots, and several Dr. Seuss stories. Netflix recently secured distribution rights for Sesame Street, and the app gives that brand a prominent spot in the lineup. Parents log in with their existing Netflix account. No additional fees or separate subscriptions are involved.
Netflix’s broader gaming push
This is not Netflix’s first move into gaming. The main Netflix app already offers a library of mobile games for older audiences, including titles like Oxenfree II and Into the Breach. Playground is its first standalone app built specifically for younger children. The company has been steadily expanding its gaming division since 2021, acquiring studios like Next Games, Boss Fight Entertainment, and Spry Fox to build out its catalog.
The timing follows a wider industry trend. Competitors like Apple and Google already operate curated kids’ content sections within their app stores, and Amazon Kids+ bundles games with books and video content. Netflix’s approach differs in that Playground is entirely free for existing subscribers, with no additional monetization layer.
Availability
The US launch is live now. The global release on April 28 will bring Playground to additional markets on both iOS and Android. Netflix has not announced which regions will be included in the first international wave.
