Clair Obscur wins best game at 2026 BAFTA Games Awards

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts held the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards ceremony on April 17, distributing prizes across 18 competitive categories. The evening rewarded both independent productions and big-budget releases in roughly equal measure, with no single studio claiming more than three awards.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 came closest to a dominant performance on the night. The turn-based RPG from French studio Sandfall Interactive won Best Game, Debut Game, and Performer in a Leading Role, claiming three prizes from its 12 nominations. The acting award went to Jennifer English, recognized for her performance as the game’s lead character. Clair Obscur entered as the most-nominated title across all categories, ahead of all other games.

Dispatch, an independent superhero narrative game from studio AdHoc, also earned three awards: Animation, Audio Achievement, and Performer in a Supporting Role for actor Jeffrey Wright. The game’s three wins at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards placed it level with Clair Obscur for the highest total on the night, despite entering the ceremony with fewer nominations.

PlayStation titles claim three wins at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards

Sony saw two productions recognized on the night. Death Stranding 2 won Artistic Achievement for its visual direction and world design, while Ghost of Yotei claimed both Technical Achievement and Music. Between the two titles, PlayStation took three total awards from the ceremony.

Blue Prince won Game Design, the category BAFTA awards for a game’s underlying rules, systems, and mechanical craft. British developer Rebellion‘s survival game Atomfall, set in rural England, took Best British Game.

No Man’s Sky from Hello Games won Evolving Game, recognizing the studio’s sustained run of free post-launch updates since the game’s 2016 release. Hello Games has added features including multiplayer, base building, and virtual reality support through free updates since launch.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II from Warhorse Studios claimed Narrative. South of Midnight won New IP, Lego Party took Family, Despelote received Game Beyond Entertainment, and Arc Raiders won Multiplayer.

The Fellowship, BAFTA’s highest individual honor in games, went to Iikka Paananen, the founder of Finnish mobile developer Supercell, in recognition of his contributions to the industry.
