Blizzard has revealed Overwatch 2‘s 51st hero: Sierra, a new agent who opposes the Deadlock Gang. The announcement came with an animated trailer on April 8, one week ahead of Season 2‘s launch on April 14.
The reveal surprised a portion of the community. Fan speculation had pointed toward Frankie, a Deadlock Gang operative from Overwatch’s official novels who uses drones. The reasoning had weight: Frankie had a clear backstory and an established connection to the Deadlock Gang, which was at the center of Season 1’s story. Pre-release imagery shared enough visual similarities with Frankie’s novel depiction that many fans treated the link as confirmed before the trailer dropped. Sierra shares the drone mechanic and the faction connection, but she opposes the Deadlock Gang as an adversary rather than operating within it.
What the trailer shows
The animated reveal puts Sierra up against Emre, a cyborg already established in the game’s fiction. Sierra gains the upper hand before escaping alongside Freja. The two part ways after Freja warns Sierra against her plan to simultaneously fight Talon and the Deadlock Gang. Freja’s warning positions Sierra as a hero whose goals put her at odds with both factions before Season 2 even starts.
The trailer also gives a first look at Sierra’s combat toolkit without a formal kit breakdown. Her movement is agile and her primary weapon is a pulse rifle. Her most distinctive mechanic appears to be a homing device that tracks enemy positions and steers her projectiles toward those targets. She can also link to her drone to reposition across the battlefield. The two mechanics work in tandem: the homing device maintains pressure as enemies move, while the drone link keeps Sierra mobile enough to avoid being pinned down in return.
Blizzard has not published a hero page or full ability list ahead of the season. Complete kit details are expected at or near the April 14 launch.
Season 2 story context
Sierra’s introduction continues the Talon storyline that ran through Season 1, which built around Doomfist‘s defeat. Her stated goal puts her in direct opposition to both Talon and the Deadlock Gang, giving her a conflict that spans two of the game’s major factions at once. That setup gives her story a broader scope than a single-faction arc, though the specifics of how it plays out in Season 2’s content have not been detailed ahead of launch.
Season 2 also brings a redesign for Anran, a change the player base has been waiting on. Blizzard has not shown the updated look before April 14, but confirmed it arrives with the season. Both the Sierra debut and the Anran visual update become available when Season 2 launches on April 14.
