Academy sets dates for 99th and 100th Oscar ceremonies

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has set the dates for the next two Oscar ceremonies. The 99th will be held on March 14, 2027, and the 100th edition on March 5, 2028. Both shows will take place at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and air on ABC at 4pm Pacific Time.

The Dolby Theatre has been the Oscars’ home since 2002, and the 100th ceremony will be the last held there. From the 101st edition in 2029, the show moves to L.A. LIVE in Downtown Los Angeles, an entertainment and sports complex adjacent to the Crypto.com Arena. The ceremony will stream live on YouTube, putting it on a platform accessible to viewers who do not have cable or broadcast TV subscriptions. The announcement gives studios, distributors, and filmmakers roughly two years to plan their campaigns for the 99th awards season.

The 100th ceremony in 2028 arrives just under a century after the first Academy Awards, held in May 1929 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. That inaugural event recognized films from 1927 and 1928. The centennial edition will honor films from the 2027 calendar year.

Full timetable for the 99th season

The Academy released the complete schedule for the 99th season. Final submission deadlines for general entry categories, Animated Feature Film, Best Picture, and the RAISE form fall on November 12 and 15, 2026. The RAISE form is an inclusion and representation survey the Academy requires as part of the eligibility process for most categories.

Preliminary voting runs December 7–11. Shortlists are announced December 15, and the eligibility period for the season closes December 31. Nominations voting opens January 11, 2027, and closes January 15, with the nominations announcement on January 21. The nominees luncheon is set for February 16. Final voting runs February 25 to March 4, with the ceremony following on March 14. All listed dates are subject to change, the Academy noted. The schedule follows the same general pattern used in previous Oscar cycles, with shortlists narrowing eligible fields before formal nomination voting begins.

Results from the 98th Academy Awards

The new ceremony dates were announced weeks after the 98th Academy Awards. Warner Bros led the field. One Battle After Another won six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn. The studio’s Sinners earned four wins, with Michael B. Jordan winning lead actor.

Jessie Buckley won lead actress for Focus Features’ Hamnet. Amy Madigan took supporting actress for Weapons. Conan O’Brien hosted the night at the Dolby Theatre. The 99th and 100th ceremonies will use the same venue before the Academy transitions to its new downtown home at L.A. LIVE.
