Spider-Man: Brand New Day box office beats Endgame’s record

Spider-Man: Brand New Day broke a seven-year-old record over its opening weekend. The film pulled in $360 million domestically, passing the $357.1 million Avengers: Endgame earned in April 2019.

Domestic opening weekend totals are one of the clearest early signals of how a blockbuster is landing with audiences. This one puts Brand New Day ahead of the previous high mark by nearly $3 million.

The spider-man brand new day box office run by the numbers

The film is a joint production between Sony and Marvel, continuing the franchise’s run inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It opened across 4,487 North American screens and drew in $5 million more than Sunday projections had estimated, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Endgame’s 2019 total came from a wider release of 4,662 screens, so Brand New Day set its record while playing in 175 fewer theaters. Endgame needed nearly 200 more locations to reach its total, while Brand New Day cleared that mark with a leaner release footprint.

Sony and Marvel have not detailed per-screen averages for the opening. Still, the raw totals point to stronger turnout at each individual theater relative to Endgame’s run.

The film’s story draws in other Marvel characters beyond its lead. According to the report, Hulk and Punisher both factor into the plot, alongside a since-revealed twist that has already drawn separate coverage tied to the film’s cast.

Consequence’s own ranking of the franchise’s prior entries places this opening ahead of most of the series’ earlier installments.

Global total already tops $900 million

Brand New Day has made $927 million worldwide since its release three weeks ago. That is ahead of the $911.4 million The Odyssey had made in the same window.

The comparison gives an early read on how the film is performing outside North America, even though its domestic opening weekend is the headline number driving the record. A three-week head start over a rival release means the global figure will keep shifting as both films continue to play in theaters.

Endgame’s bigger records remain untouched

Beating the opening weekend mark does not put Brand New Day ahead of Endgame’s overall run. Endgame closed with $2.799 billion worldwide and remains the fastest film to reach $2 billion, a mark it hit in just 11 days.

Brand New Day would need a lengthy, consistent run in theaters, plus strong holds in the weeks after its opening, to approach numbers on that scale.

For now, the opening weekend record is the film’s biggest milestone so far, set against one of the highest bars in modern box office history. How Brand New Day holds up in its second and third weekends will determine whether it closes the gap on Endgame’s wider records.
