A Diablo 4 Switch 2 release is reportedly coming next month, arriving as a boxed version that costs $69.99 despite skipping a physical cartridge entirely.
Leaker Billbil-kun, posting via deal site Dealabs, says the Switch 2 version of Diablo 4 launches on either September 15 or September 18, 2026. The claim follows an age rating that surfaced earlier this year and already pointed toward a port for Nintendo’s console. Blizzard has not confirmed a release date or price itself, so the details remain a leak for now.
A boxed release without a cartridge
The retail box reportedly won’t contain a game cartridge or even Nintendo‘s newer Game-Key Card format. Instead, buyers get a printed code that unlocks a digital download, similar to how some publishers already handle large open-world titles on the console. Storage limits on Switch 2 cartridges have pushed several third-party studios toward code-in-box packaging rather than shipping the full game on physical media.
Why the Diablo 4 Switch 2 price matches the Age of Hatred bundle
The reported $69.99 price, £62.99 in the UK, lines up with the Age of Hatred bundle sold on other platforms, which packages the base game with the Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred expansions. Billbil-kun hasn’t confirmed whether the Switch 2 version includes both expansions at that price or covers only the base game. Given how closely the price matches the bundle elsewhere, expansion content seems likely, though Blizzard has not commented on what the box will include. Physical retailers in Europe and North America have not listed the game for pre-order yet, so shoppers hoping to reserve a copy will need to wait for an official confirmation from Blizzard.
Rod Fergusson, Diablo’s general manager, addressed the possibility of a Switch port last year, before Switch 2 launched. He said “there’s opportunity there” to bring Diablo 4 to the console, but added that “live services on Switch have been a little bit challenging in the past.” Fergusson didn’t detail what those challenges involved at the time.
Signs that Blizzard had solved whatever held the port back appeared in June, when the Taiwan Entertainment Software Rating board listed the Lord of Hatred expansion as coming to Switch 2. That listing, combined with the new Dealabs report, points toward a version of the game that’s further along than an early-stage experiment.
A Gamescom announcement could be close
If the September launch window holds, an official announcement likely isn’t far off. Billbil-kun speculates Blizzard could reveal the Nintendo port at Gamescom 2026, which runs in Cologne, Germany, later this month. That would give the studio roughly three weeks of marketing before launch, a tight but not unusual runway for a console port of an already-established game.
Diablo 4 launched in 2023 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, and Blizzard has continued to support the action role-playing game through seasonal content updates and paid expansions since. The studio recently overhauled how the game’s Mythic-tier items work after players criticized their random effects, a change Blizzard says removes the randomness players had been asking to fix. A Switch 2 version would mark the first time the full game runs natively on Nintendo hardware, rather than through cloud streaming.
