A two-minute trailer for Electronic Arts and Motive Studio‘s Iron Man game leaked online this week. The game’s official social media account has since confirmed the Iron Man game footage is real. The clip spread quickly across social media and forums including ResetEra before EA weighed in directly.
The footage, still clearly a work in progress, shows Iron Man flying through a city environment that resembles Chicago, then landing to fight enemies at street level. Motive announced the game back in 2022, but the studio has yet to show it in an official trailer. Updates on its progress have been rare in the years since.
EA responds to the Iron Man game footage leak
In a post published shortly after the clip emerged, the game’s official account acknowledged the leak directly rather than staying silent. “Well, that didn’t go as planned. But now you know, and we’ve got a lot more to show you. See you when we’re ready,” the account wrote. The wording points to a fuller reveal already in the works.
Motive Studio, the Montreal-based developer behind the campaign in Star Wars Battlefront II and the Dead Space remake, is leading development. Executive producer Olivier Proulx, who previously worked on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy at Eidos Montreal, oversees the project day to day.
When the game was announced in 2022, Marvel Games vice president and creative director Bill Rosemann described the collaboration in ambitious terms. “We are thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at Motive Studio to bring their original vision of one of Marvel’s most important, powerful and beloved characters,” he said at the time. “Their experience delivering both established entertainment worlds and thrilling gameplay, combined with their authentic passion for the armored icon, will fuel our quest to deliver a love letter to a legendary hero in the form of the ultimate Iron Man video game.”
A second Marvel project already cancelled
EA’s Marvel output hasn’t been without setbacks. The publisher struck a multi-title partnership with Marvel Games in 2017. Iron Man is now the only project to have emerged from that deal since a single-player, open-world Black Panther game was cancelled last year. That game had been in development at Cliffhanger Games, a studio EA shut down once the project ended. Reports at the time indicated players would have taken on the role of T’Challa’s son rather than the character himself. That would have marked a notably different approach from the classic hero take Motive appears to be building.
The Iron Man project is now EA’s main active bet in the Marvel space, alongside a wider industry push into the license. Sony‘s Insomniac Games is separately developing Marvel’s Wolverine following its two Spider-Man titles, and several other Marvel-branded projects remain in earlier stages of development elsewhere. That crowded field adds pressure on EA and Motive to show a finished product rather than another leak.
EA has not said when it plans to reveal the Iron Man game officially. The studio’s own message points to more coming soon rather than a quiet return to silence. For now, the leaked clip is the clearest look at the project fans have had since its 2022 announcement.
