Square Enix has confirmed the Final Fantasy 7 Revelation release date: April 8, 2027. The publisher revealed the date during a PlayStation State of Play. A new trailer aired alongside it, showing open-world gameplay in the Wutai region and a look at the card game Queen’s Blood.
The date lands almost exactly seven years after Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched on April 10, 2020. It also arrives roughly three years after Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which came out in February 2024. Revelation closes out the three-part remake project that reimagines the 1997 role-playing game across separate releases.
What the Final Fantasy 7 Revelation release date trailer showed
The State of Play segment focused on the party members who round out the original Final Fantasy 7 cast, including Cid and Vincent. It also gave fans a new look at Wutai, the home region of party member Yuffie, which appears late in the story.
Square Enix followed the cinematic trailer with a gameplay deep dive. Footage showed the party leaping from the airship Highwind into open-world areas below. Yuffie used a grapple gun to move around Wutai’s terrain, and the sequences suggest Revelation expands on the traversal systems Rebirth introduced.
Players can choose who leads the party
Revelation lets players pick their main character in the open world, instead of locking them to Cloud. That’s according to the footage shown during the State of Play. Square Enix said side quests can also play out differently depending on which character takes them on, a change from Remake and Rebirth.
Rebirth was already a larger game than Remake, adding open-world regions, minigames and side content across its version of the Final Fantasy 7 map. The gameplay shown for Revelation points to another increase in scale as the trilogy heads into its final chapter.
More spin-off characters are coming
Naoki Hamaguchi, producer on the trilogy, has said Revelation includes more characters from Final Fantasy 7’s wider spin-off material. He said the development team “thought really hard” about which references to the wider compilation to include in the story’s conclusion.
That compilation includes Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core, which follows Zack Fair, and Final Fantasy 7: Dirge of Cerberus, which centers on Vincent Valentine. It also includes the film Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children. Hamaguchi’s comments suggest Revelation will lean on those stories more directly than Remake or Rebirth did, giving supporting characters a larger role in the finale.
