Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is joining PlayStation Plus, with Sony confirming the open-world game will enter the Game Catalog on July 21. The Frontiers of Pandora PS Plus release will be available globally and playable on PS5 as well as PlayStation Portal.
The franchise has released three films since its debut, with a fourth already dated for 2029. Console spinoffs tied to Avatar have stayed rare, though. This open-world entry, first launched in 2023, is still the series’ main attempt at a full-scale game. Its arrival as part of PS Plus’s Frontiers of Pandora lineup gives players who skipped it the first time a reason to check it out.
Massive Entertainment developed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Ubisoft published it in 2023. Ubisoft has kept the game updated since, adding a third-person camera mode two years after launch alongside two rounds of story expansions. PlayStation Plus’s Game Catalog sits above the service’s base Essential tier. Members will need an Extra or Premium subscription to add the PS Plus Frontiers of Pandora release to their library at no extra cost.
What the Frontiers of Pandora PS Plus release includes
Sony’s official description sets up the premise: players control a Na’vi abducted as a child by the RDA, a militaristic human corporation, and trained to serve its purposes. Fifteen years later, that character is free but estranged from their own people. The game follows their return to Pandora, reconnecting with Na’vi heritage. Along the way, they join other clans to push back against RDA incursions across the Western Frontier.
The base game supports both first-person and third-person perspectives, a shift Ubisoft made in response to player feedback after launch. Combat and exploration lean on Pandora’s bioluminescent wildlife and vertical terrain. Players glide, climb, and fight across a map built specifically for the game rather than lifted from the films.
DLC included with the PS Plus version
Subscribers picking up Frontiers of Pandora through PS Plus also get access to its expansion content. Sky Breaker adds a mysterious threat appearing in Pandora’s skies alongside additional missions against the RDA, while Secrets of the Spires introduces aerial sabotage objectives.
The largest of the three is From the Ashes, released in late 2025 to coincide with the third mainline Avatar film. It puts players in control of a new Na’vi character, So’lek. The perspective shifts toward third-person by default, though first-person remains an option. The expansion centers on the Ash Clan and its conflict with the RDA, extending the base game’s story rather than standing apart from it.
Ubisoft has not announced further DLC for Frontiers of Pandora since From the Ashes launched. Even without new add-ons, the Frontiers of Pandora PS Plus release still hands a wider audience the full package. Subscribers get the base story and both expansions without paying separately when it arrives on July 21.
