Neverway sets October 2026 release window for PC and Switch

Coldblood has confirmed that Neverway, the studio’s debut game, will launch in October 2026 on PC and Nintendo Switch. The announcement came alongside a new trailer and marks the first concrete release window for a project that first surfaced at a major indie showcase last year.

Neverway is billed as a “nightmarish life-sim RPG.” The game follows Fiona, who moves to an island to start over, only to find herself bound to a dead god as its immortal herald. That role sits in tension with the day-to-day of island life: building friendships, settling into routines, and taking part in the social rhythms typical of the genre. The horror elements emerge from that friction rather than from combat or jump scares. Players have to maintain relationships and manage Fiona’s daily life on the surface while something much stranger operates underneath. Coldblood has not detailed how the mechanical side of that split plays out, but the tone of the trailer suggests the surreal elements grow heavier as the game progresses.

The collaborators

Pixel artist Pedro Medeiros is handling Neverway’s visual style. Medeiros previously worked on Celeste and TowerFall, where he built a reputation for expressive character animation within the constraints of a pixel art palette. Composer Disasterpeace is scoring the game. His soundtracks for Fez and Hyper Light Drifter gave both games a dreamlike, sometimes unsettling quality that went beyond standard video game scoring. For a debut title built around dread and the uncanny, both bring directly relevant experience.

Neverway was first shown publicly at the Triple-I Initiative in 2025, a showcase dedicated to independent games developed without major publisher backing. The event positions itself as an alternative to publisher-dominated showcases, and has become a visible outlet for smaller studios to reach genre audiences early. Neverway’s appearance there, combined with the involvement of Medeiros and Disasterpeace, gave it early attention in the indie press.

What’s playable now

A free prologue for Neverway is available on Steam. It introduces Fiona and the island setting, covering the early setup before the narrative turns strange. The prologue is separate from the full release and does not require pre-purchase. It already has user reviews on Steam, giving Coldblood some early feedback data ahead of the full launch.

The October 2026 window aligns with the pattern of horror-adjacent indie games releasing around Halloween. Games like Dredge have shown there is a real audience for titles that pair cozy mechanics with unsettling themes. Coldblood has not announced a specific date within October, and pricing has not been confirmed.
