Gravity and Daweon Game Media Lab, alongside developer Waycoder, have announced Ragnarok Console Project for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC via Steam. The RPG launches in the first half of 2027.
The game draws from the Ragnarok franchise, which began with Ragnarok Online, a massively multiplayer PC game developed by Gravity and first released in South Korea in 2002. That title accumulated more than 100 million registered players over its lifetime, spreading from Asia into global markets and producing mobile games, sequels, and regional adaptations over two decades. Ragnarok Console Project is the franchise’s first full push onto current-generation consoles, built around a single-player story format rather than persistent online play.
The multi-platform scope is notable for a franchise historically concentrated in PC and mobile markets, particularly in Southeast Asia. Targeting PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2 at the same time signals Gravity’s intent to reach a broader global audience. PC availability via Steam also keeps the game accessible to the market where Ragnarok Online first built its following.
Story and setting in Ragnarok Console Project
Set in a reimagined Ragnarok world, the game tasks players with uncovering the hidden causes behind a collapsing reality. Gravity and Waycoder describe the narrative as built around choices with lasting consequences: “a story where beliefs and decisions collide, not a simple tale of good versus evil.”
At the center of the conflict is the Heart of Ymir, a source of dimensional distortions that slowly consume the world as the story unfolds. An opening prologue introduces the protagonist after a failed retrieval: “When he came to, the first thing that came to mind was not the pain. ‘Where is the item?’” The developers frame failure as a recurring presence in the narrative: “Failure isn’t the end. In most cases… it’s closer to the beginning.”
Classes and environments
Players move through deserts, ruins, research facilities, and dimensional rift zones while investigating the world’s deterioration. Companions fill class roles pulled from Ragnarok Online: Knights, Mages, Priests, Hunters, and others, each with a distinct combat function in the party.
Drawing on familiar archetypes from the source material gives longtime fans an entry point while letting Waycoder build a new story around them. The shift to a solo, consequence-driven format moves the franchise away from the guild-based online model that defined it for more than twenty years.
