007 First Light Switch 2 version delayed to later this summer

IO Interactive confirmed Wednesday that its upcoming James Bond game, 007 First Light, will not launch on Nintendo Switch 2 alongside other platforms. The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions still release May 27, 2026. The Switch 2 port follows “later this summer.”

The announcement came in response to an online leak claiming the Switch 2 version had been delayed indefinitely. IO Interactive responded publicly but gave no explanation for the gap. “007 First Light comes to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on May 27th, 2026, and Nintendo Switch 2 later this summer,” the studio said. “We’re excited to see players discovering James Bond’s reimagined origin story, and we are looking forward to bringing you the best game experience possible across all platforms.”

007 First Light was one of the headline third-party titles shown during Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal earlier this year. The game is built by the studio behind the modern Hitman trilogy and follows a younger version of Bond in a reimagined origin story. IO Interactive secured the Bond license in 2020 and has been developing the project for over five years. The studio did not respond to requests for comment on the specific reasons behind the Switch 2 delay.

Switch 2 ports keep slipping

007 First Light is not an isolated case. Borderlands 4 was announced for Switch 2 alongside its main platforms, with a planned fall 2025 window. Gearbox Entertainment later confirmed that port had been indefinitely suspended, with no public explanation and no timeline for revival.

FromSoftware‘s Elden Ring remains unresolved. It was among the first Switch 2 ports announced, appeared at Gamescom 2025 in noticeably poor shape, and still has no release date. More recent hands-on reports suggest performance has improved on the hardware, but no firm window has been set. The pattern now includes at least three high-profile third-party games that have missed or abandoned their original Switch 2 targets.

The recurring delays point to porting difficulties on Nintendo’s hardware. No developer has offered a technical explanation, and Nintendo has not publicly addressed the pattern.

What the delay means for Switch 2 players

For players planning to buy 007 First Light on Switch 2, “later this summer” leaves the exact arrival date open but does not indicate a cancellation. IO Interactive’s framing implies ongoing development rather than a suspension like Borderlands 4’s.

If the summer window holds, the delay amounts to roughly three to four months after the May 27 main launch. The PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions of 007 First Light remain on schedule.
