Euphoria season 3 will be the series’ last, HBO confirms

After seven years and 26 episodes, Euphoria has officially come to an end. Creator Sam Levinson confirmed the news on Popcast, the New York Times’ music podcast hosted by Joe Coscarelli and Jon Caramanica. HBO followed up by confirming Levinson’s announcement to Variety.

The final episode of Season 3, titled “In God We Trust,” served as the series finale. Variety also published a recap of the episode along with interviews featuring supporting cast member Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and guest star Colman Domingo.

Why Euphoria season 3 marked the end

The conclusion had been a long time coming. The most visible sign: a four-year gap between Season 2 and Season 3, the longest hiatus in the show’s history. During those years, lead actress Zendaya and several of her co-stars moved from television celebrity to the upper tier of Hollywood film. Their blockbuster schedules made assembling the full cast a logistical challenge, and production on Season 3 faced significant delays as a result. Variety had reported on those delays in 2024.

Zendaya herself had not been coy about the show’s trajectory. In interviews ahead of Season 3, she said she believed Euphoria was wrapping up with this run. Levinson’s own remarks ahead of the premiere pointed the same way. Speaking with the Times, he said he writes “every season like it’s the last.” When Coscarelli pressed him on whether a fourth season existed in any form, Levinson declined to commit. “I don’t know,” he said. “As of right now, all I want to do is hang out with my wife and kids and read some Elmore Leonard and watch ‘Mrs. Miniver’ again.”

HBO has not announced any continuation, spinoff, or follow-up film.

About the show and its cast

Euphoria premiered on HBO in 2019. The series followed a group of high school students navigating drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love, and friendship, and became one of the network’s most-discussed dramas. Its unflinching depiction of addiction and teen life attracted both wide audiences and substantial debate. Zendaya won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for the role of Rue in 2020, becoming the youngest actress to receive the honor at that point, then won again in 2022 for the same role.

Season 3 moved the story forward with a time jump, with its characters now contending with questions of faith, redemption, and the problem of evil.

The cast across the three seasons included Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Toby Wallace, and Domingo. Levinson created the series and executive produced alongside Ashley Levinson, Sara E. White, Kevin Turen, Ravi Nandan, Drake, Adel “Future” Nur, Ron Leshem, and others. The show ends at three seasons and 26 episodes total.
