The GTA 6 download size on PS5 is 210GB, according to PlayStation Game Size, an account that tracks file sizes for upcoming PlayStation releases. The account shared the figure in a short post on X on October 27. Rockstar Games has not confirmed the number.
PlayStation Game Size has a fairly reliable record with this kind of data. Still, the figure is unofficial. Download sizes also tend to differ from final install sizes once a game unpacks on the console.
How the GTA 6 download size compares
If accurate, 210GB would make GTA 6 roughly twice the size of Grand Theft Auto 5. That game takes up about 105GB on PC. Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar’s most recent open world release, sits at around 150GB on PC.
On consoles, those older games are smaller. According to GamesRadar+, the base PS5 versions of Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 come in closer to 100 to 110GB, with physical and digital editions requiring different downloads.
Rockstar’s open world games have grown with each release. Grand Theft Auto 5 first launched in 2013 on PS3 and Xbox 360, five years before Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived in 2018.
Platform matters too. GamesRadar+ notes that PS5 and Xbox Series X file sizes for the same game usually differ only slightly. Meanwhile, Rockstar has not announced a PC version of GTA 6, so there is no figure for that platform yet.
What 210GB means for PS5 storage
A 210GB download takes a large share of a standard PS5 drive. The launch PS5 shipped with an 825GB SSD, of which roughly 667GB is usable after system files. The slim model has a 1TB drive with around 848GB free out of the box.
On the original console, that leaves room for about three games of this size and little else. As a result, players who keep several large games installed may need to clear space or add an M.2 SSD before launch day.
Connection speed is the other factor. At 100Mbps, a 210GB file takes more than four and a half hours to download. At 50Mbps, the wait stretches past nine hours.
Pre-load dates and launch
GTA 6 pre-loading opens on November 12, one week before the game launches on November 19. That gives players seven days to pull the full file before release.
However, the pre-load is unlikely to be the whole story. GamesRadar+ expects some form of day-one update on top of the base file, which would push the total GTA 6 download size higher on launch day. Rockstar has not shared any details about a launch patch so far.
Until Rockstar or the PlayStation Store lists an official number, 210GB remains the only figure in circulation. The final GTA 6 download size should become clear once pre-loading begins on November 12.
