Star Wars Outlaws is now free on PS Plus, available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers on PS5. The game joined the service catalog in May 2026, and PlayStation has not announced a removal date. For anyone with a qualifying subscription who skipped it at launch, this is a chance to play the open-world Star Wars title at no extra cost.
Developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft in partnership with Lucasfilm Games, Star Wars Outlaws launched in August 2024 as the first open-world game set in the Star Wars universe. Players take on the role of Kay Vess, a young scoundrel assembling a crew for a high-stakes heist under pressure from a crime syndicate she is indebted to. The story takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, drawing on the criminal underworld of the galaxy that the main saga rarely explores.
Critical reception and commercial performance
Star Wars Outlaws earned a 75/100 average on OpenCritic at launch, with 68% of critics recommending it. Screen Rant gave it 8 out of 10 stars. Reviewer Glenn Bunn described it as “a stunning depiction of scum and villainy” and praised its depth as an exploration of the galaxy’s criminal side. Bunn flagged some pacing issues and moments where the design felt restrictive, but called it “an enjoyable open-world experience” overall.
On the commercial side, Ubisoft acknowledged in October 2024 that Star Wars Outlaws had not met its sales targets. It joined a string of high-profile releases that year to fall short of internal projections. Its appearance on PS Plus Extra and Premium follows a pattern seen with other Ubisoft titles: a retail window, then inclusion in subscription services.
What the game covers
Star Wars Outlaws spans multiple planets, mixing recognizable film locations with new environments created for the game. Gameplay centers on open-world exploration, managing reputations with several criminal factions, and taking on missions that determine how those factions respond to Kay Vess. The game runs on Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine, used previously in The Division series. It carries a T for Teen rating from the ESRB, covering violence, simulated gambling, and mild language.
PlayStation’s catalog description calls it a chance to “fight, steal and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted.”
