Xbox Series X price increase in Europe reaches €200

Microsoft has confirmed the full scope of the Xbox Series X price increase across Europe and the UK. The hike took effect on August 1. European buyers now pay up to €200 more for an Xbox Series X console. UK shoppers face increases of up to £170, depending on the model.

Microsoft first announced the price increase in June. At the time it only shared US figures: a $100 rise for 512GB models and $150 for 1TB models. The regional breakdown for Europe and the UK stayed unconfirmed until the change went live. Players first flagged the gap after comparing storefront prices on the ResetEra forum.

What the Xbox Series X price increase means for shoppers

In Europe, the 1TB Xbox Series X and Series S models are up €200 and €150 respectively. The 512GB Series S model rises by the same €150 margin.

UK pricing follows a similar pattern, with 1TB models up £170 and 512GB models up £130. The Xbox Series S now starts at €499.99 in Europe and £429.99 in the UK, both roughly 50% above their launch prices.

The disc-based Xbox Series X, Microsoft’s flagship model, has risen the furthest of all. In the US it now costs $799.99, up from $649.99, which is $300 more than its 2020 launch price. In Europe it costs €799.99, and in the UK £669.99.

  • Xbox Series S (512GB): $499.99 / €499.99 / £429.99
  • Xbox Series S (1TB): $599.99 / €599.99 / £519.99
  • Xbox Series X (1TB, Digital): $749.99 / €749.99 / £619.99
  • Xbox Series X (1TB, Disc): $799.99 / €799.99 / £669.99

Component costs and industry-wide price hikes

Microsoft blamed the increase on what it called “the current components crisis” affecting the consumer electronics industry. The company pointed to rising memory and storage costs.

“We hoped another price increase would not be necessary, and we have spent the last several months working with suppliers on options,” the company said in June. “Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x, and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027.”

The move follows a similar hike from Sony, which raised PlayStation 5 prices in April. The base PS5 Digital Edition rose by $100 to $599.99, while the premium PlayStation 5 Pro increased $150 to $899.99.

Microsoft itself raised Xbox console prices twice in the past year. Shoppers in the US, Europe and UK have watched console costs climb every year since the pandemic-era component shortages began.

This is the first time every major console manufacturer has pushed prices upward in the same year. Typically prices trim as a generation matures. Nintendo has held its Switch 2 pricing steady so far. Memory costs are still climbing industry-wide, so further increases from any platform holder cannot be ruled out before the end of 2027.

For anyone weighing a purchase now, the Xbox Series X price increase makes the digital-only model the cheaper entry point into the current generation. It costs $749.99 in the US, €749.99 in Europe and £619.99 in the UK. Physical media still commands a premium of $50 or more across every region Microsoft sells consoles in.
