Palworld has left early access. Developer Pocketpair released the Palworld 1.0 update on PC and consoles, and the patch notes run past 10,000 words. The update reworks the main story, adds a new floating region, and expands the Pal roster by 72 entries. Palworld pairs creature-collection with survival-crafting mechanics, letting players capture Pals to fight, farm, and staff automated bases across an open world.
Palworld launched into early access in January 2024 on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation, arriving day one on Xbox Game Pass. The game sold millions of copies within its first weeks, and comparisons to the Pokémon series followed it through that entire stretch. Pocketpair, the Tokyo-based studio behind Palworld, previously released the survival game Craftopia in a similar early access format. Questions over how far the finished game would move beyond its survival-crafting roots have followed the studio since launch. Version 1.0 answers some of that by leaning further into story and world-building than any prior update.
The biggest reveal in the update is the World Tree, a central landmark tied to the rivalries between the game’s competing factions. Pocketpair reworked the story campaign so progression feels less disjointed. The isolated map regions were rewritten too, so they read as part of one connected world instead of separate zones. Players will also find new side quests and journal entries scattered across the map.
New areas and Pals in the Palworld 1.0 update
Sunreach is a set of islands that floats above Palpagos, reachable once players progress far enough into the new story content. The area has its own ore deposits and Pal spawns exclusive to the region. Alongside Sunreach, Pocketpair added new settlements across the existing map, each with new NPCs and sub-quests to complete.
Sanctuaries received a full overhaul as well. Each one now has a distinct environment and terrain, and the Pals found there are exclusive to that specific sanctuary. Pocketpair also rebalanced Pal habitats so spawns match their surroundings more closely. Pocketpair also raised server player caps, from 65 to 80, to accommodate the larger world and the new region.
Breeding and combat changes
The patch introduces a mutation mechanic that gives bred Pals a low chance of producing a stronger variant. Partner skills got a major rework, and Pals now have new active and passive skills to unlock through raising and breeding. Riding controls and mount animations were also updated, changing how combat and traversal feel on foot versus on a Pal’s back.
Pocketpair says the 10,000-word patch also includes numerous smaller tweaks and bug fixes not covered in its headline changes. The studio has not detailed a roadmap for post-1.0 content, though its early access run suggests updates will keep arriving at a steady pace.
